Participating are representatives from twenty-three universities that are among the top twenty-five universities in the nation that produce Ph.D. recipients in the social and behavioral sciences from underrepresented minority (URM) groups.

Under the SBE Alliance format, modeled after the National Science Foundation’s Alliance for Graduate Education for the Professoriate (AGEP), these twenty-three institutions are formed into five (5) regional alliances across the country.  The first institution under each alliance is the designated lead institution for that alliance.
